PACE Vocational Services
The Disability Action Center partners with PACE Enterprises on a Vocational Services Program for individuals who are receiving IDD/Medicaid Waiver. This program is so much more than traditional “Day Hab”. The Vocational Services program follows a very successful PACE model and will focus on work readiness and acquiring life goals outlined by the individual’s service plan. This program provides services that assist individuals with disabilities in achieving the highest level of independence and self-sufficiency possible in their lives.
The participants of the PACE Vocational Program at the DAC have a variety of opportunities not available in a traditional Day-Hab environment. PACE Staff and clients have access to all areas and classes of the DAC which include the Gymnasium, Fitness Room, Computer Lab, Accessible Teaching Kitchen, and Classroom activities which include arts and crafts, life skills, computer class, line dancing, group fitness, cooking, lunch and learn, bible study, book club, and much more. Not to mention the endless access to a variety of assistive technology, including IPADs, Kindles, Speech to Text Devices, Community Living Aids, Literacy Curriculum, Accessible Recreation Equipment, a Lending Library and much more.
Participants of the Vocational Service Program learn the skills they need to succeed in life, at home, and at work. They will receive one on ones skills development by trained staff and will have an environment to learn and grow.
PACE staff and the DAC work closely together with the community, families, and other service agencies to identify potential clients for the program and will follow a client centered approach from start to finish.
The ultimate goal and mission of the program is to continue to do what PACE does best and that is to employ people with disabilities. With the DAC and PACE partnership, there will be many more opportunities for people with disabilities in the community and in the workplace.
If you or someone you know if interested in this program, please contact Julie at the DAC at (304) 366-3213 or Sam at PACE at (304) 983-1026. We would be happy to discuss with you eligibility and program offerings.
