NEW Programs in 2024

Thank you to everyone who completed the Program Survey in the Fall. Your suggestions and feedback have helped shape the 2024 Calendar and we have some very exciting NEW Programs coming your way including: NASA/space technology, foreign language studies, animal science, guitar instruction, dance class, and much more! Sub Sale…..November 16th and 17th

Please visit our website or stop in for your Sub Sale order form. You can start taking sub orders at any time and they will be made fresh for delivery or pick up on November 16th or November 17th.

Volunteers are also needed on November 16th and 17th to prepare for the sale, make the subs, deliver the subs, and help out in any way!
Most of all we need to SELL THOSE SUBS!

Christmas Decorating and Hanging of the Greens
November 28th, 2023     12-2 p.m.

Our Annual Christmas Decorating and Hanging of the Greens will take place Tuesday, November 28th at the Center. Clients and families are welcome to come and enjoy food and fellowship while giving back and decorating. This is YOUR center and we want you to be a part of making it shine during the Holidays and all year through!  Refreshments will be provided.

School Closing Schedule

Winter is fast approaching and we are sure to get some wild wonderful WV weather! We will be following the Marion County School Closing Schedule. If school is cancelled then our classes/programs will be as well. If there is a 2 hour delay, we will have classes/programs as scheduled. If there is an early dismissal, our classes/programs will be cancelled.

GO! (Get Outdoors) Activities

November 8, 2023   12-3 p.m. Bass Pro Shop
December 13, 2023   10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Christmas Shopping

Christmas Shopping at Meadowbrook Mall. Meet at DAC at 9:30 a.m.
Have shopping list and money for lunch and shopping with you.
Limit 8 participants due to safe transportation practices. Additional participants must provide their own transportation. Please call and reserve your spot!

Christmas Choir and Handbell Choir

We will have the Christmas Choir perform at our Christmas Dinner on December 2nd, 2023. Collins and Jared will lead the Choir efforts and practice will be held each week during Try This Thursday in October and November. Handbell Choir will be led by Ann Burns and will also meet during Try This Thursday as part of the Choir program. A special “Dress Rehearsal” will be held on Thursday, November 30th at LIFE church during an extended Try This Thursday time 10-2 p.m. at LIFE Church.

DAC Christmas Dinner and Program

Saturday, December 2, 2023 5-8 p.m.

Our Annual Christmas Dinner will be held on Saturday, December 2nd
from 5-8 p.m. at the Life United Methodist Church.
Tickets will go on sale November 1st and can be purchased at the DAC. Client tickets are FREE.
(You must pick up a ticket even if you are a client and your ticket is free).

Each client/member can bring two (2) additional family members or guests with them to the dinner. The client’s meal will be provided, and each guest shall pay $15 for their meal. Youth age 6-10 will cost $10 and children under 6 will be free.
You must have PAID your yearly MEMBERSHIP, You must have a ticket to attend the dinner, and you must RSVP by the required date.
The Dinner will be catered and there will be plenty of surprises for all of our members.

Full STEM Ahead and Creative Arts
A partnership of the DAC and Homestead Farm Center

The DAC and HFC are pleased continue the very successful Full STEM Ahead and Creative Arts classes that include:

  • NEW: Make it Mondays: November and December: Weaving
  • Tuesday STEM: November: Manufacturing
                                 December: Science of Winter
  • Try This Thursday (TTT): November: Choir and Handbell Choir
                                                December: Handmade for the Holidays

All Morning Enrichment program will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. and will be held in 1-month blocks. Please plan to attend the entire monthly session from the start.

Membership and Policy Updates:

Please be sure to update your Level of Support Policy with the DAC as there are changes in your support needs or recommendations. You should update your plan due to age or beginning to receive Title 19 IDD Waiver services…either through wait list approval or coming off of the waitlist and receiving your waiver approval.

New Membership applications will be available in December for the new program year beginning January 2024. Please update any policy forms or membership at that time.

#Higherground Building Fund and DAC Expansion

#Higherground Expansion continues at DAC with projects including the outdoor classroom (completed), DAC-Wilfong Wellness Center, and the vertical platform lift (In progress) on the main DAC facility. Grant writing and fundraising is underway for the DAC-Wilfong Wellness Center and the properties across the street and the sites have been cleared for the construction of the one of a kind, accessible gym and wellness space.
