GO! (Get Outdoors)

The DAC’s very popular GO! (Get Outdoors) Program will continue in 2022 as our way to increase the recreational, social, and fitness opportunities available to individuals with disabilities in Marion County. We do hope to return to many of our favorite off-site GO! events in 2022 including swimming, Palatine Park activities and concerts, field trips, sporting events, farmer’s markets, and other activities that get us up and moving.

NOTE: YOU MUST REGISTER IN ADVANCE FOR ALL GO ACTIVITIES. SPACE AND TRAVEL IS LIMITED. ADDITIONAL PARTICIPANTS MUST PROVIDE THEIR OWN TRANSPORTATION. PLEASE CALL AND RESERVE YOUR SPOT!

The Disability Action Center & Marion County Schools
Transition Fair 2022
March 11, 2022    11:30 to 1:30 p.m.

The Disability Action Center is proud to host the 2022 Transition Fair in conjunction with Marion County Schools. Each year students from each high school are invited to learn about post-secondary training, support, and resources. In addition to the high school students, we also encourage parents and adults we serve who are looking for employment, training, supportive services, or have questions about available resources for their family to attend. Vendors will be on hand representing colleges, social security, IDD waiver providers, Division of Rehabilitation, employment opportunities, and more.

Friday Night Outs
March 18th, 2022 5-6 p.m. (St. Paddy’s Theme)
April 8th, 2022 5-6 p.m. (Talent Show)

We hope to continue in-person Friday Nights Out in 2022 at our beautiful new location. However, in maintaining our commitment to safety, the FNO will be a drive by/pick up event if Marion County is RED on the COVID WV DHHR map the previous day. If you are interested in hosting or assisting with one of these activities, please let us know!

DAC Community Open House and Ribbon Cutting
April 1, 2022    11:00 a.m.

Now that we have successfully transitioned to our amazing new #Higherground location, it is time to share it with the rest of the community and thank everyone who made this move possible.
In conjunction with the Marion County Chamber of Commerce and our local and state representatives, we will officially dedicate the new DAC with a flag raising ceremony, donor and grant acknowledgements, center tours, and refreshments.

DAC Easter Egg Hunt April 16, 2022-Tentative
LIFE United Methodist Church

11 p.m. Registration and Snack   12 p.m. Egg Hunt

We will be holding the annual Easter Egg Hunt for Children of All Abilities on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at LIFE United Methodist Church, 3000 Technology Dr. in Fairmont.
 We ask that you join us for refreshments provided by Woodman of the World and registration at 11 a.m. and the Egg Hunt will begin at 12 noon. We are sure to have a visit from the Easter Bunny and there will be plenty of refreshments and prizes for those in attendance.

A partnership of the DAC and Homestead Farm Center

The DAC and HFC are pleased to continue the very successful Full STEM Ahead and Creative Arts classes that include:

  • NEW: Make it Mondays: March and April: Jewelry & Bead making
  • Tuesday STEM: March: Spike Prime Robots   April: Science Detectives
  • Try This Thursday (TTT): March: Theatre  April: Board Game Mania

All Morning Enrichment program will be held from 10-11:30 a.m. and will be held in 1-month blocks. Please plan to attend the entire monthly session from the start.

DAC SUB SALE
April 28 and 29, 2022
8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

It’s time again for our Semi-Annual Sub Sale! Please see the enclosed order form for more details! Our goal is to surpass the 2,000 Sub Mark and make a comeback from last year! We Can Do It!

Volunteers are also needed on April 28th and 29th to prepare for the sale, make the subs, deliver the subs, and help out in any way possible. Most of all we need to SELL THOSE SUBS!

DAC Basket Bingo

Knights of Columbus

Tickets for our Annual Basket Bingo will be available in March. Liz is working hard already on preparing some amazing baskets and prizes for this fundraiser.

In the event that the Bingo cannot be safely held in person we will hold our Virtual Basket Bingo Blitz again….that was a lot fun too!

RURAL Program
(Rural to Urban Agricultural Learning)

10 week summer education and training program in partnership with the Homestead Farm Center. Applications will be available March 1, 2022 and must be returned by May 6, 2022

DAC/Mallamo Golf Tournament
(Date To Be Determined)
 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Volunteers, Golf Tournament Sponsors, and of course golfers are needed to participate in this year’s tournament. This tournament is one of our largest fundraisers and the longest standing Golf Tournament in Marion County. If you are interested in being a part of the tournament, please contact Julie at the Center at (304) 366-3213 or Jimmy Hess at (304) 838-0571.

Camp CAN-DO: Onward and Upward
July 25-29, 2022    9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Camp Details and Registration will be released in early Summer
